WHAT WE PROVIDE?
FULL FORMAL
ELECTRICAL INSPECTION.
-
Verify the appliance is appropriate for its location and has no obvious immediate hazards (e.g., liquids, trip hazards, blocked ventilation).
-
Check the outer shell for physical damage or signs of overheating.
-
Inspect the entire power cord for cuts, fraying, abrasions, unsafe repairs (like tape), or damage to the outer sheath and internal insulation.
-
Ensure the cord is gripped securely at both the plug and the appliance ends, with no inner wires visible.
-
Check the plug exterior for damage and, if rewireable, ensure correct wiring, secure terminals, and that the appropriate BS-approved fuse is correctly installed.
-
Where a rewireable plug has external damage or incorrect wiring, swap this plug top or rewire the plug correctly. Where an inappropriate fuses is installed, swap this for the appropriate BS-approved fuse.
-
Record all findings and immediately remove any failed equipment from service.
FULL FORMAL
VISUAL
INSPECTION.
-
Select the appropriate test settings on the PAT tester based on the equipment's class (Class I, Class II, etc.) and type (IT equipment, extension lead, etc.)
-
Confirms a reliable, low-resistance connection between the earth pin of the plug and the metal casing of the appliance to ensure safety during a fault.
-
Applies a high voltage to check the integrity of the insulation, ensuring it can prevent electric shock and has a high resistance reading (typically >1 MΩ).
-
Measures any current leaking from live parts to earth during operation, which must be within safe limits (typically <3.5 mA for most appliances).
-
Verifies the live, neutral, and earth wires are correctly connected at the plug and within the appliance.
-
Record all quantitative test results, label the equipment clearly with its pass/fail status, and immediately remove any failed items from use.
